A step-by-step walkthrough for replacing the default Hearth interface with Kindlane using an Android phone and Bugjaeger.
This walkthrough follows the installation process tested on a Hearth display. You’ll use an Android phone and the Bugjaeger app to install Kindlane wirelessly. These steps are specific to Hearth; other Android displays may use a simpler installation method.
On your Hearth display, tap the Settings icon in the upper-right corner. Then select the small Advanced Settings button in the lower-left corner.
In Advanced Settings, open About tablet. Tap Build number seven times to unlock Developer options, then open Developer options.
Under the Debugging section, open Wireless debugging and enable it. Make a note of the IP address and port displayed in the Hearth settings—you’ll need both to connect your phone.
On your Android phone, install Bugjaeger from Google Play and open it. Enter the Hearth display’s IP address and port, then connect. Both devices must be able to communicate over your network.
In Bugjaeger, scroll to the bottom of the app list and locate Native App. Disable it so the original Hearth interface does not launch in place of Kindlane. This changes the device’s default behavior.
Download the Kindlane Wall APK to your phone. In Bugjaeger, tap the + button, find the APK in your phone’s Downloads folder, and install it on the Hearth display.
Once installation finishes, look for Kindlane near the top of Bugjaeger’s app list. Tap the Play button to launch it on Hearth.
