Get your household connected.
Create or join a household from your iPhone or computer with Google sign-in. You can also use the Android app or keep an existing family setup.
Create your household
- Open Kindlane in Safari on iPhone or in your computer browser.
- Choose Sign in with Google. Your first sign-in creates your Kindlane account.
- Enter your household name and choose Create household. You do not need an Android device, a Firebase project or a shared family password.
- Set up Daily lists, tasks, rewards, meals and calendar events in the app. Follow the browser setup checklist.
- Open Home → Settings → Household members on iPhone, or Household members in the desktop sidebar. Create an Adult or Child invitation and share the code privately.
- Assign each child a Daily list and review their Permissions.
Join your family
- Ask the household owner for an invite code.
- Open Kindlane and choose Sign in with Google using your own account.
- Enter the invitation and choose Join with a code.
- Codes have 8 characters, work once and expire after 24 hours. Ask the owner for a fresh code if needed.
- Check that you can see your family's expected information. Returning members use their usual Google account.
The web app uses Google sign-in. See the Android/Wall child-account note for supported devices without Google.
Preserve your family data
Families using the older shared family login can open Settings → Sync across devices → Using an older family login? for migration and legacy project settings. Keep that account and its data until the household migration is verified. Do not test migration on real family data.
We've retained the illustrated manual setup and connection guide for these families.
Legacy Firebase walkthroughUsing an installed app?
Install the Android app, complete the welcome tour and choose Continue to Google. Sign in with your own account, then create or join a household and choose Sync this device when offered. On an existing installation, open Settings → Sync across devices.
Use the Wall APK for compatible wall displays. Supported Android/Wall devices can use a pre-created email/password account when Google is unavailable. These APKs are separate from the iPhone and computer web app.
Device installation guideAbout the made-up email address tip
The web app uses Google sign-in. A child using the web app signs in with their own Google account and joins with a Child invitation. The email/password instructions below apply only to supported Android/Wall devices.
A child can join with a unique, pre-created Firebase email-and-password account instead of a Google account. But Kindlane's Sign in with email button only signs in an existing account—it does not register a new one. Someone authorized to administer Firebase Authentication for the household's active sign-in project must create that account first.
A made-up address can serve as an identifier for a manually provisioned email/password account; it does not need to be a Gmail account. Use a real parent-controlled mailbox or a unique alias when possible: a fictional or undeliverable address cannot receive password resets or verification messages, making account recovery difficult. Do not use an address belonging to someone else.
- Have an authorized Firebase Authentication administrator provision a separate child account with a unique email identifier and strong password for the correct project. The public Kindlane app does not do this for you.
- On the child's Android device, open Settings → Sync across devices → Household, choose No Google on this device? Sign in with email, and use the pre-created credentials.
- On the owner's device choose Invite a kid. On the child's device tap Join with a code and enter that code.
- The owner then assigns the child's Daily list and reviews Permissions. Confirm the child's device shows only its authorized information.
If you do not administer the active Firebase project or have a provisioned child login, this is not yet a self-service sign-up method. Use Kindlane support rather than entering a fabricated email and expecting a new account to appear. Never reuse the parent's sign-in on the kid's own device, because access is linked to the signed-in role.
Check that syncing works
Signing in or seeing a connection indicator isn't a complete sync test. Add a harmless temporary item on one device, confirm it appears on a second connected device, and remove it. Test migration and kid permissions in a separate test household.
